Mocky’s Revinge
a novelette
by Mark Louis Lehman

What would a novel written by an eight-year-old girl be like? That’s the question that Mocky’s Revinge poses. Set in the summer of 1985 in a small Ohio town, her tale, as you’d expect, is autobiographical. But it also has a specific purpose, for Carrie Ann Watson has a score to settle with her new stepfather Roy, and her third-grade writing assignment gives her an idea. She decides to tell the story, in her own idiosyncratic style, being sure to “stick to facks no matter what,” of her Uncle Mocky, a wry, gentle—and openly gay—French teacher who’s returned to his home town to reconcile with his estranged, dying father, and how Mocky vanquishes Roy’s spiteful bigotry. The result is a tart, playful, funny, and touching excursion into literary terrain unlike any other, as Carrie, the self-described “heroin of are story” proves that “revinge” is indeed sweet.

Author Mark Louis Lehman is a copy editor and retired Freshman comp instructor who spent 32 years trying to get reluctant students to write clear, correct English at the University of Cincinnati. In Mocky’s Revinge he combines his wide experience of “inventive” modes of our native tongue with his affection for the inhabitants of small-town Midwestern America (one of whom he is married to).

Mr. Lehman is available for interviews, readings and/or talks about the book in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky Tri-State area. Contact Amanda Lykins, manager, via e-mail littlepossumpr@aol.com.
